Sophia Garner
Sophia Garner (she/her) is a Senior Director at Advance NYC. With extensive experience in individual and institutional giving, program management, strategic planning, prospect research, budget development, capital campaigns, Board relationships, and team-building, Sophia is passionately committed to supporting community-based nonprofit organizations. Prior to joining Advance NYC, she served as a fundraising consultant to Black Theatre Coalition, The Peace Studio, The Salvation Army Midland Division, HavenHouse St. Louis, ABC to CEO, Gateway Arch Park Foundation, and The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis. She most recently worked as a Lead Consultant at A.D. Hamingson & Associates, whose clients included Vineyard Theatre, Pipeline Theatre Company, National Black Theatre, Building for the Arts, and Wild Project. She has held development roles at Roundabout Theatre Company and at CABD, Inc. (aka Camille A. Brown & Dancers), where she helped secure $2.5M in support within the first 18 months of her tenure. As Development Director of COCA-Center of Creative Arts, a St. Louis-based multidisciplinary arts organization, she launched and managed a $50M capital campaign to expand its facility.
Sophia has an M.F.A. in Performing Arts Management from City University of New York (CUNY)—Brooklyn College (Graduate Dean’s List); a B.S. in Theatre and Communications from Northwestern University (Evanston, IL); and is a graduate of New World School of the Arts High School (Miami, FL). Currently living in San Antonio, TX, she is a military spouse with two children. She enjoys reading, traveling, and bingeing true crime documentaries and reality T.V. shows about love.
